MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 16 (Ticker) -- Martynas Andriuskevicius only
needed a short span of time to make his presence felt.
Andriuskevicius scored all 11 of his points in a three-minute
span of the fourth quarter and rookie Tyrus Thomas added 12 to
lead the Chicago Bulls to an 87-78 victory over the Memphis
Grizzlies in a preseason contest.
After playing in just six games with the Cleveland Cavaliers
last season, the 20-year-old Andriuskevicius was sent to Chicago
for Eddie Badsen on August 8. The Lithuanian made all five
shots from the floor as the Bulls raised their preseason mark to
3-0.
Chicago was clinging to a 74-73 lead with 3:48 remaining when
Andriuskevicius became a one-man wrecking crew. He made a
three-point play, a layup and three short jumpers to help seal
the victory for the Bulls.
Thomas's draft rights were acquired by Chicago, along with
Viktor Khryapa, from the Portland Trail Blazers for the rights
to LaMarcus Aldridge on June 28. The former LSU star scored 10
points in the first half and added a dunk with four seconds
remaining.
Malik Allen and Luol Deng scored 10 points apiece, and Ben Wallace grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulls, who shot 57 percent
(33-of-58).
Hakim Warrick scored 13 points to lead five Memphis players in
double figures. Damon Stoudamire had 12 and rookie Alexander Johnson added 11 with 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who fell to
2-2.
Averaging 16.7 points in three contests, Memphis rookie Rudy Gay
was a late scratch with a bruised chest muscle.
