MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 10 (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett and Wally Szczerbiak helped the Minnesota Timberwolves bring their winning ways back home.

Garnett scored a season-high 30 points and Szczerbiak added 25 as the Timberwolves extended their season-best winning streak to five games by posting a 95-82 triumph over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The first four wins during Minnesota's streak were all on the road, including a 113-108 victory Dec. 2 that started the upswing. It also was the Lakers' last loss before starting a four-game winning streak that was halted Saturday.

"When you're winning, it fuels confidence," Garnett said. "It fuels chemistry in the locker room. When you have 13 or 14 guys who are confident in themselves, it spreads like a virus. Winning early is very, very important."

Szczerbiak, who scored a season-high 34 points in the triumph over Los Angeles, scored nine points in the opening quarter as the Timberwolves jumped to a 27-18 lead after the first quarter of a game they never trailed.

Minnesota led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, but Lamar Odom cut the deficit to 60-56 with a layup with 4:33 left in the third period. Szczerbiak keyed a 10-0 run, scoring nine straight points and giving the Timberwolves a 74-63 advantage going into the final 12 minutes.

"When they needed to make some shots, KG stepped up and made them," Lakers star Kobe Bryant said. "Wally stepped up and hit a couple of big ones right when they needed them to. Because of that, they kept us at arm's length."

Bryant scored 35 points and helped the Lakers get back in the game. They shaved the deficit to 80-75 with 5:06 to go on a low-post basket by Kwame Brown, who returned after missing 10 games with a strained right hamstring.

"The important thing is that we kept battling and we kept fighting," Bryant said.

"We made some runs back at them, got some opportunities to get back in the ballgame," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "But we couldn't sustain the effort late in the ballgame when Szczerbiak got hot and got some things accomplished."

Garnett dominated on both ends of the floor in the final 2:44 when he blocked a shot by the driving Odom, who scored 16 points, and connected on a pair of fadeaway jumpers to seal the win.

"The last two games, they outsurvived us," Jackson said. "The single thing that is most difficult for us is Kevin Garnett. He's on the post and he's an effective playmaker."

Saturday's game was the Lakers' fourth of a six-game road stretch spanning nine days.

"They beat us tonight on the boards and the hustle points," Jackson said. "Those are the things that are indicators that usually will tell you how a team is feeling about themselves."
