PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 12 (Ticker) -- Nate McMillan faced a familiar foe
in his first game on the bench for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Zach Randolph scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds while
Sebastian Telfair added 12 points and 10 assists as the Trail
Blazers posted an 82-75 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics in
the preseason opener for both teams.
McMillan played his entire 12-year career with the SuperSonics
before coaching the team for five seasons, including last
season's run to the Pacific Division crown. However, Seattle
allowed his contract to expire and McMillan surprisingly signed
with rival Portland.
Randolph, who struggled last season with injuries and
inconsistent play, came off the bench and connected on 5-of-7
shots from floor and made all six attempts from the line in 25
minutes.
Playing in his second season after being drafted out of high
school and in his first season as the starting point guard,
Telfair made just 3-of-14 shots from the floor in 32 minutes.
Blazers rookie Martell Webster, who was drafted out of Seattle
Prep High School, scored six points but made only 3-of-12 shots
from the floor in 23 minutes.
Sonics All-Star Ray Allen scored 11 points in 19 first-half
minutes. Vladimir Radmanovic did not play for Seattle because
of a sore left foot.
