SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 22 (Ticker) -- Jason Kidd was not shy about pulling the trigger after one of the worst shooting games in his career.

Kidd had 28 points and 11 rebounds and Keith Van Horn added 17 and eight as the New Jersey Nets defeated the San Antonio Spurs for the second time in eight days, 92-86.

Kidd endured a miserable offensive game in Monday's loss at Dallas, scoring just three points on 1-of-17 shooting. But he came out firing against the Spurs, recording a season-high 24 shots and leading the Nets to one of their most impressive victories of the season.

Kidd made 12-of-24 shots from the field despite hitting only 1-of-7 3-pointers. He sank 3-of-4 free throws, all in the final 30 seconds, and dished out four assists.

"You can expect that kind of effort from a superstar with his kind of passion for the game," Nets coach Byron Scott said. "If he had a tough outing the night before you can expect him to come back the next night strong. He made it a point to come out and make an impact on this game and he did."

San Antonio had a 47-43 advantage less than two minutes into the second half before New Jersey scored nine straight points. Van Horn opened the run with consecutive baskets and added a free throw.

Kidd scored 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the third quarter. The Nets had scored just 39 points in the first 24 minutes but outscored the Spurs, 32-21, in the third and took a 71-64 lead entering the fourth.

"We came out flat in the third and I think it showed," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "Kidd and Van Horn definitely stepped it up in that period."

Lucious Harris sank two technical shots and a conventional free throw to end the third and New Jersey scored the first eight points of the fourth.

Kidd opened the final period with a jumper and rookie Richard Jefferson followed with a pair of free throws. Rookie Jason Collins sank a short jumper and Harris capped the run with 17-footer to give the Nets their largest lead, 79-64, with 9:43 to go.

The Spurs responded with 13 straight points, led by former Net Stephen Jackson, who made a 3-pointer and two free throws. Antonio Daniels' 3-pointer with 4:47 to go brought San Antonio within 79-77.

Kenyon Martin made consecutive bakets to extend the lead and Kidd nailed a huge jumper and three clutch free throws in the final 79 seconds as the Nets avoided their first losing streak in nearly a month.

"You know, with any NBA they are going to make their run at you," Martin said. "The Spurs made their run at us. You can stagger but you can't fall. That's the attitude of this team. We took their best punch and withstood it."

"This is about our biggest win all season," Scott said. "From start to finish, we did just about everything we wanted to do on both ends of the court. Offensively and defensively, we got after it."

New Jersey has won 11 of its last 15 games since suffering back-to-back losses December 21-22.

Harris finished with 12 points off the bench and Kerry Kittles added 11 despite 2-of-7 shooting. Martin scored 10 points before fouling out with 2:46 to go.

New Jersey won at the Alamodome for the first time since January 22, 1997 and swept the season series from San Antonio for the first time since that same season.

Tim Duncan had 32 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Spurs, who have lost five of their last eight games at home.

"We haven't played our best ball at all on any level, but by no means are we out of it," Duncan said. "The guys on the floor are definitely understanding how to play with each other. We're really getting ready to find our way. It's a long season."

Daniels finished with 18 points and David Robinson added 16 as San Antonio shot just 38 percent (30-of-79) and missed 13-of-17 3-pointers.

"We had a tough time scoring," Popovich said. "The competitiveness is there, but when you shoot 38 percent from the field it makes it tough."

New Jersey was not much better, shooting just 42 percent (34-of-82), including a dismal 2-of-10 from 3-point range.
