About Alan Griffin

Griffin was born April 14, 2000 in Waltham Massachusetts. He is the son of Adrian and Audrey Griffin. His father played in the NBA for nine years before becoming a coach in the league. His mother ran track for Seton Hall. His younger brother, AJ, was one of the top recruits in the 2021 class. His younger sister, Aubrey, plays college basketball for UConn. Griffin played basketball for three high schools — Oak Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park, Illinois; Ossining High School in Ossining, New York; Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York. As a senior, he averaged 19.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game while shooting 48 percent from deep. He helped lead Archbishop Stepinac High School to its first-ever New York State Federation Class AA title. He was named Player of the Year for Westchester County and Putnam County by The Journal News. After high school, Griffin committed to playing college basketball at Illinois.

As a freshman, Griffin saw action in 27 games, drawing one start and averaging 3.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game. His best performance as a freshman was Nov. 20, 2018 against Iowa State, where he recorded 11 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists and one steal in 16 minutes. As a sophomore, Griffin averaged 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18.0 minutes across 28 appearances (one start). His best performance that year was Feb. 27, 2020 in a win over Northwestern, where he posted 24 points (9-11 FG, 6-8 3Pt), seven rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes.

He transferred to Syracuse for the 2020-21 season. There, as a junior, he started 27 of his 28 appearances and averaged 13.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals in 29.2 minutes. With those numbers, Griffin was named to the ACC All-Honorable Mention Team. Arguably his best performance as a senior was in a win over Buffalo on Dec. 19, 2020, where Griffin posted 24 points (8-14 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 7-8 FT), 10 rebounds (four offensive), three assists, three blocks and two steals in 39 minutes.
