About Devonte' Graham

Devonte’ Graham is a battle-tested defender and jump shooter who showed marked improvement as a playmaker as a senior, his first year playing without long-time backcourt make Frank Mason.  A consensus top-70 prospect in the high school class of 2014, Graham played a small role for the Jayhawks as a freshman before emerging as a regular starter as a sophomore making set shots at a strong rate, holding his own defending shooting guards, and contributing in a variety of ways in Kansas’ two-point guard lineups.  Graham earned All-Big XII Second Team honors as a junior averaging 13.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game before becoming the clear-cut leader for Bill Self’s program as a senior.  Averaging 17.3 points, 4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game against one of the top schedules in the country, Graham earned Consensus All-America First Team honors and was named Big XII Player of the Year.  He led Kansas to the Final Four and yet another Big XII regular season title to extend the Jayhawks’ streak of conference supremacy to 14 years.

  • Measured 6’1.5 in shoes with a solid 6’6.25 wingspan and strong 186-pound frame at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine.  Not overwhelmingly big for a point guard, but has good speed, quick hands, and solid explosiveness.

  • Played a big role for Kansas as a senior finishing as the Jayhawks leader in points and assists per game.  Was asked to create for others far more frequently than he was early in his career, particularly out of the pick & roll.   Did some of his best work as a shot-maker off the ball, but also made pull-up jump shots at a strong rate.  Finished the season as one of the most prolific offensive guards in the country in terms of points created.

Defensive Analysis

  • Pesky at the point guard position with quick hands.  Not the biggest guard, but has quick feet and plays with some grit.  Allowed 0.696 points per Isolation possession[65th percentile] holding his own on the ball for the most part, but lacks great length to contest shots in spots.  Maintained an impressive activity level despite the way his offensive role expanded last season.  Will need to maximize his frame to hold up against bigger guards.
