Strengths:
* Athletic
* Active and lively presence
* Has ability to face up
Weaknesses:
* Needs to become a more consistent offensive rebounder
* Needs to be able to guard more than one position
NBA projection:
Could become a role player in the NBA by focusing on being a multi-position defender, or an active rebounder.
2010-11 Season:
Started every game for a team that reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Played his role as a complimentary scorer/rebounder, reaching double-figure scoring in 17 games and rebounding in double figure six times. Played some of the best basketball of his career in the NCAA Tournament, including a 19-points, 17-rebound game. The 17 boards set a Florida NCAA Tournament record.
Key statistics:
9.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 25.1 mpg, .500 FG, .333 3PT, .630 FT
Cool statistic:
Tyus never fouled out of a game in his four-year Florida career that spanned 140 games. … Tyus became just the fifth player in the Billy Donovan era at Florida to reach 500 career field goals. The others: Udonis Haslem, Matt Bonner, David Lee, Anthony Roberson and Chandler Parsons.
Reminds me of:
When he's active, a smaller version of former Florida star Joakim Noah.
What Insiders Say:
Florida coach Billy Donovan
"In the NBA, 80 percent of the players are filling a role," Donovan said. "Two or three guys on each team do the bulk of the scoring. The other guys have a role. Alex needs to learn, 'What kind of niche do I need to carve out for myself?'"
What Outsiders Say:
BYU coach Dave Rose
"Tyus is a really good player—athletic, long, a guy who can hit shots from the perimeter."
