This past season, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters teamed up with Tito’s Handmade Vodka to support Assists for a Cure. For every assist made by the Cavs and Monsters this past season, Tito’s donated $10 to Flashes of Hope to help fund a cure for children’s cancer. At the Cavs home playoff game on Wednesday, April 18th, Courtney Koenig, Tito’s Ohio Area Manager, presented a check worth $22,430 to Lisa Cencula, Chief Marketing Officer at Flashes of Hope, as the teams combined for a total of 2,243 assists.

Cavs and Tito's Assists For a Cure Update

The Cavs and Monsters have teamed up this season with Tito’s Handmade Vodka to support Assists for a Cure. For every assist made by the Cavs and Monsters this season, Tito’s will donate $10 to Flashes of Hope to help fund a cure for children’s cancer.  With a combined total of 1,523 assists so far, $15,320 has been generated.

Whether on the hardwood or the ice, this season assists will go further than just the stat sheet. They’ll go towards helping find a cure for pediatric cancer.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters are proud to partner with Tito’s Homemade Vodka to support "Assists for a Cure."  For every assist made by the Cavs and Monsters during the 2017-18 season, Tito’s will donate $10 to Flashes of Hope, to help fund a cure for children’s cancer.

Founded in Cleveland in 2001 by parents of a child with cancer, Flashes of Hope has photographed more than 63,000 children across the country and raised millions of dollars for critically needed research.

Cavaliers and Tito's Begin Assists for a Cure

During any given assignment, James Bond found himself pinned against impossible odds, matched against villains with names like Mr. Big, Dr. Julius No and Sir Hugo Drax – left to rely only his own strength, courage and wits to save his life and maybe the lives of millions.

James Bond succeeded each time. And, more so, he looked GOOD doing it.

Well, the man numerically known as “007” doesn’t have anything on the dashing young dudes and elegant little ladies who hit the runway on Tuesday night at The Q – decked out for Medical Mutual’s “Big Shots &amp; Little Stars” fundraiser to benefit Flashes of Hope and the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

The theme for this year’s event, presented by KeyBank, Penske Cleveland and Richard Horvitz &amp; Erica Hartman-Horvitz, was focused on the style and charm of James Bond. And Tuesday night’s participants were all-in.

The event tipped off around 5:30 p.m. with a red carpet reception, with Cavaliers players and coaches lined up to greet guests. Upon arrival, everyone gathered for a pre-program cocktail reception on the Quicken Loans Arena concourse.

Before the fashion show, celebrity auctioneer Tom “T-Bone” Bounds – with an assist from Jed Hunter of Pennske and Cavs in-game hosts, Nicole and Ahmaad – auctioned off some fantastic items, including a private dinner prepared by four of the area’s top chefs, a portrait of Sean Connery on the set of “Thunderball,” and finally, the experience of taking a road trip to Atlanta with the Cavaliers.

When the bidding was done, the evening’s heavy-hitters took the stage – Dan Gilbert and Flashes of Hope founder Allison Clarke took the stage.

Dan’s oldest son, Nick, was born with neurofibromatosis and he was the 2011 National Children’s Tumor Foundation Ambassador. Allison founded Flashes of Hope when her son, Quinn, was recovering from cancer surgery over a decade ago.

Then just four years old, Quinn was recovering after having a part of his hip removed at a local hospital. While he was coalescing, his two-year-old roommate in the pediatric ward was not so lucky, passing away not long after.

Quinn lamented to his mom that his friend was gone and there was no photo of him.

Now, Allison Clarke works diligently to make sure this doesn’t happen again. And Flashes of Hope, a national nonprofit that changes the way children with cancer see themselves through the gift of photography, was born.

After Dan and Allison spoke, more than 1,400 guests in attendance watched an inspirational short film on the Ramer family – a family that saw not one, but two of its children diagnosed with cancer. The story was driven by their middle daughter, 11-year-old Lauren, who faced down the challenges her and her younger brother were facing with humor, and the determination to help others.

At that point, it was time for the Big Shots and Little Stars to hit the catwalk – and this is where participants got to do their James Bond thing.

For the event, the Big Shots were dressed by Kilgore Trout. The Little Stars, by Tuxedo Junction and Catan’s Fashions. The Bond girls were clothed by Catan’s Fashions and Fringe. And all of Tuesday’s costumes were created by Jenniver Sparano. The team from John Roberts Salon designed the hair and make-up.

Emceed as always by Cavaliers play-by-play man, Fred McLeod, the first duet – Randy Paine and Dakota – set the stage, with Randy donning the James Bond jetpack from “Thunderball.”

The Cavaliers and Monsters were well-represented among the Big Shots.

From the Lake Erie Monsters, it was Paul Carey, Bryan Lerg, Calvin Pickard, Guillaume Desbiens and Sami Aittokallio – the last three rocking their Movember mustaches.

All of the Cavaliers players were on hand and each escorted Little Stars of all sizes along the arena-length stage. Andrew Bynum carried toddler Capri while Tristan Thompson and teenage Zyhir took the opportunity to vogue for the cameras like fashionistas on a runway in Milan.

Kyrie Irving and Victoria did a fantastic silhouette routine behind a projected screen before they strode along the catwalk and Dion Waiters and his Little Star, Zion, looked like they were made to model.

Each member of the Cavaliers ownership group – Dan Gilbert, Nate Forbes and Jeff Cohen – escorted Little Stars and models across the stage. And interspersed with Tuesday’s moonlighting models were the real McCoys – female models dressed as some of the iconic Bond girls, like Honey Rider, Pussy Galore and Tiffany Case.

When it was all said and done, the annual “Big Shots and Little Stars” raised over $950,000 to benefit Flashes of Hope and the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

It was a tremendous night for all involved.

The Big Shots, ranging from Kyrie Irving to the Queen of England (or at least a reasonable facsimile of Her Highness) came up big on Tuesday night. And the brave Little Stars like Karlie, Cael, Madisyn and Jazmine came up even bigger.

A night of 007 glitz and glamour was the setting for Medical Mutual’s “Big Shots &amp; Little Stars” fundraiser presented by KeyBank, Penske Cleveland and Richard Horvitz &amp; Erica Hartman-Horvitz to benefit Flashes of Hope and the Children’s Tumor Foundation. With more than 1,400 guests in attendance at Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night, the James Bond-themed evening raised more than $950,000.

Dressed to the nines in bow ties and ball gowns, the crowd was on its feet as the “Big Shots and Little Stars” strutted their stuff on the runway in a unforgettable fashion show.  Cavaliers majority owner and Chairman Dan Gilbert, Cavs and Lake Erie Monsters players and prominent Cleveland CEOs escorted the real stars of the night— children who have been affected by cancer.

“Big Shots &amp; Little Stars gets bigger and better every year,” said Flashes of Hope founder Allison Clarke. “We are so grateful for the support from the Cavaliers organization and each of the generous donors who make this event a success. Each of our Little Stars had an incredible time with their Big Shot, giving their families a night full of memories that they’ll cherish forever.”

Along with Dan Gilbert, “Big Shots” for the evening included Cavaliers Vice Chairmen Jeff Cohen and Nate Forbes, the entire Cleveland Cavaliers team and Monsters players Bryan Lerg, Calvin Pickard, Paul Carey, Sami Aittokallio and Guillaume Desbiens.

“Allison Clarke continues to inspire all of us with her passion and energy for helping these deserving children and families,” said Dan Gilbert, Chairman and majority owner of the Cavaliers and Monsters. “The event gets bigger and bigger each year, but the Little Stars are always what the night is about. They are some of the bravest and most positive kids you will ever meet, even though they have faced adversity, pain and challenges in their young lives already. We can all learn something from their resilience. Being a partner in this effort and seeing the impact we can have, is something that means a great deal to our entire organization.”

Ahmaad and Nicole, most commonly known as the in-arena hosts at Quicken Loans Arena for Cavalier games, emceed the evening’s event, which featured cocktails, fabulous food, a silent auction and preshow entertainment by the Scream Team, Cavalier Girls and special musical guest Alyce Marie. The “Big Shots &amp; Little Stars” silent auction items included autographed sports memorabilia and unique experience packages offered by the Cavaliers, Monsters, Cleveland Indians, Santo Salon and Spa, Re/Max, Exclusive Resorts, John Roberts Spa and many more. John Roberts also provided hair and makeup services to all Big Shots and Little Stars for the evening.

Flashes of Hope (FOH) is a national nonprofit that changes the way children with cancer see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for pediatric cancer research. Every month volunteers transform the outpatient clinics and hospital floors into professional photography studios. Families receive a generous portrait portfolio and a CD of all the images taken. All service are provided free of charge. With chapters in 55 cities, Flashes of Hope photographs more than 50% of the children annually diagnosed in the United States. Since its founding in 2001, FOH have photographed 31,925 children at hospitals and camps across the United States. For too many families, the portrait is the last one they have of their child. Thousands of children are waiting for a cure while doctors are forced to use outdated and toxic treatments. Cancer is the leading disease killer of children, yet childhood cancer receives only 4% of federal funding for research. In 2009, FOH began funding research and have already raised millions of dollars through their Kick-program and other initiatives. They honor the courage of children with cancer; capture a moment in time and fund research so they will have the chance to create a lifetime of memories.

The Children's Tumor Foundation (CTF) is a non-profit medical foundation, dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by the neurofibromatoses (NF). The mission of CTF is to encourage and support research and the development of treatments and cures for neurofibromatosis types 1 and 2, schwannomatosis and related disorders. CTF support persons with NF, their families and caregivers by providing thorough, accurate, current and readily accessible information. CTF assists in the development of clinical centers, best practices and other patient support mechanisms to create better access to quality healthcare for affected individuals. As well as, expand public awareness of NF to promote earlier and accurate diagnoses by the medical community, increase the non-affected population's understanding of the challenges facing persons with NF, and encourage financial and other forms of support from public and private sources.
