Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson not one to seek spotlight of All-Star Weekend

The Golden State Warriors have four All-Stars for the second straight year, are the favorites to win their third championship in the last four seasons, and just might be a dynasty in today’s NBA.

Stephen Curry drives the offense, Draymond Green is the heart of their defense, and Kevin Durant is their best all-around player. The question for those who want to see the Warriors broken up is if Klay Thompson can be had in free agency after the 2018-19 season. The Athletic‘s Anthony Slater profiles Thompson with that question in mind:

“Klay’s going to be a friend for life,” Durant said. “Don’t matter who he play for or what decision he makes. Obviously, if a guy asks what I think about a situation, I’ll give him what I experienced. But he’s a guy who is going to make a decision on his own. He said he wants to be here, just gotta trust his word. Let him do his thing.”

On a crowded stage loaded with big names, it’s hard to imagine Klay jolting himself to the front as one of the prime topics of All-Star weekend.

“He won’t be because he don’t want to be,” Durant said. “I’m sure he’s going to avoid all that. You got James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, all from LA. And they all are megastars when it comes to that. Klay’s a star that just wants to hoop.”

The Warriors’ stable, winning situation is a great lure for Thompson to stay put. But what would likely await elsewhere also plays in the Warriors’ favor. Thompson seems to have no desire to go chase more points, shots and media shine away from his headlining teammates.
