“Today is Phoenix Suns Day in the city of Phoenix,” Mayor Greg Stanton announced.

The Phoenix Suns hosted a court dedication at the Lincoln Family YMCA in downtown Phoenix to commemorate the newly refurbished basketball court. There, Stanton declared Monday as Phoenix Suns Day to celebrate the golden anniversary of Arizona’s original sports franchise.

“To be able to have one day that has been proclaimed to be specific to our organization is really terrific,” Suns President Jason Rowley said. “It’s a terrific reflection of the partnership between Phoenix Suns Charities, the Suns, the community and the YMCA.”

The new court is part of the Suns’ statewide community initiative to refurbish, restore or build 50 courts throughout Arizona.

“They’ve always been committed to community, always been giving back,” Stanton said. “I’m really proud of this organization by how they’ve operated in the community for so many decades.”

To unveil the newly refurbished court today, Suns broadcaster Tom Leander led a special event featuring Stanton, Rowley, Marquese Chriss, and President and CEO of Valley of the Sun YMCA Bryan Madden, plus more than 50 YMCA kids that got a chance to hit the hardwood and play on the revitalized court.

Following the dedication, the YMCA kids were able to break in the new court as they received the opportunity to shoot hoops with Suns forward Marquese Chriss.

“I think it’s pretty dope to be apart of something this special,” Chriss said. “It means a lot to us as a team that our city supports us and that the community is behind us.”

Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver and Phoenix Suns Charities awarded a $1 million grant to renovate basketball courts throughout the state in celebration of the Phoenix Suns’ 50th season in the Valley, ensuring that the next generation has safe, welcoming and enjoyable places to play the game we love.

The 50th season of Suns basketball begins with the Coca-Cola &amp; Fry’s Food Stores Tip-Off on Wednesday when the Suns host the Portland Trail Blazers at Talking Stick Resort Arena. Catch the action of the home opener on Fox Sports Arizona.

When Grammy Award®-winning band Bon Jovi’s This House Is Not for Sale Tour touched down at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix on March 4th, it was “Bon Jovi Day” in the city – officially. Before taking the stage, the band was presented a proclamation from Phoenix Mayor, Greg Stanton, by Phoenix Suns President, Jason Rowley, and Sr. VP and General Manager for Talking Stick Resort Arena, Ralph Marchetta.

Rowley and Marchetta were also on hand to make an announcement with Bon Jovi, as the Phoenix Suns and the band have partnered for an exciting charity auction. In an effort to raise funds for Phoenix Suns Charities and the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, the Suns have designated two pairs of season tickets and each pair will be matched with a prize pack featuring autographed Bon Jovi memorabilia, souvenirs, and merchandise.  Bids on the auction items will be accepted from noon MT on Thurs., March 9 through noon on March 19 at www.ebay.com/jbjsuns.

JON BON JOVI SOUL FOUNDATION:  Since 2006, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation has provided solutions and opportunity for families and individuals in economic despair. The organization assists in establishing programs that provide food and affordable housing for those affected by poverty and homelessness, while supporting social services and job-training programs.

The Soul Foundation has helped provide over 500 units of affordable housing and shelter for thousands of people who were formerly homeless or of low-income. In October 2011, the Foundation expanded by opening the JBJ Soul Kitchen in Red Bank, NJ to address issues of food insecurity.  In May 2016 they opened a second JBJ Soul Kitchen, this time in Toms River, NJ to help those still feeling the impact of Hurricane Sandy. The “Pay It Forward” community kitchen serves nutritious, culinary dishes in a restaurant atmosphere where diners contribute either volunteer hours or a minimum donation for their meals.  The JBJ Soul Kitchen runs the Employment and Empowerment Team (EET) Program which connects a team of professionals with qualified volunteers to aid with resume writing, interview skills, job coaching, financial counselling and legal advice.

PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns Charities’ annual gala, THE JUMP BALL, brought to you by Annexus, will be headlined by multi-platinum pop sensation, Andy Grammer, on Friday, February 26 at Talking Stick Resort. PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns Charities is launching “Text to Bid,” an opportunity for fans to bid on the very first newly-designed Suns license plate, PX0001, now through Monday, October 20.

Suns fans are encouraged to bid by texting “Suns” to 95577 from mobile phones. Upon texting “Suns” bidders will receive a link to a mobile webpage where they can place their bid. Bidding starts at $100 and increases in $50 increments. The bid will end at noon on October 20, and the winner will be notified via e-mail once the bid is closed.

The new Suns license plate features a black background and white lettering, with the team’s bird logo on the left side and “Phoenix Suns” across the bottom. A photo of the plate is attached. Bidders must have a vehicle that is currently registered in Arizona to be eligible to receive the license plate. All proceeds will benefit Phoenix Suns Charities.

PHOENIX – Suns Charities 88, a network of community leaders, will hold its annual progressive dinner, the Slam Dunk street party, presented by Trapp Corp., on Saturday, October 11 in downtown Phoenix. Registration is set for 6 p.m.

The Suns Charities 88 Slam Dunk street party will tip-off with a cocktail reception on the Suns main court at US Airways Center, then move to Central Avenue for a sit-down dinner. The event will culminate with dessert and dancing under the stars, with music provided by Michael Wesley. Individual tickets are $188 and can be purchased by visiting Suns.com/SlamDunk.
