The Phoenix Suns will host an ‘eco-friendly’ matchup, powered by APS, when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, November 5 at US Airways Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., with doors scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m.
US Airways Center will be powered by green renewable energy from APS during the game. The energy offset will be equivalent to the amount of energy needed to light more than 3,000 Arizona homes for a week.
Throughout the night, the Suns and APS will feature a variety of activities and giveaways designed to teach fans the importance of ‘going green,’ including one lucky section receiving orange compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s). These energy efficient bulbs handed out at the game will result in savings of approximately $20,000 in energy costs over the life of the bulbs and keep about 225,000 pounds of greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere.
In addition, video of The Suns Gorilla offering his own ‘green’ advice will play at various times during the game, and fans will receive recycling tips as they ride the elevators at US Airways Center on Friday evening.
Prior to tip-off, APS representatives will be in the plaza handing out brochures and providing information about APS energy efficiency programs that can help customers save energy and money. APS will also offer fans the opportunity to “Go Green with Steve” – fans can take a photo with a life-size cut-out of Suns star Steve Nash and submit the photo to on.suns.com/aps.
This green game is one of the last stops on the APS GET IN THE GAME fall tour. For the past month, APS representatives have traveled around the state promoting energy efficiency. As part of the tour, fans can enter their name in a drawing to win the Suns VIP Experience Contest – including four lower-level tickets to a game, a tour of the Suns locker room, a pre-game photo on the court with the Gorilla, a chance to meet Steve Nash and an autographed Nash jersey. Following the last tour stop in late-November, one lucky customer’s name will be drawn by APS to win the Suns VIP Experience.
