First throwback event tips off on October 25 vs Golden State
The Phoenix Suns are turning back the clock and inviting fans to journey back to the 1990s to celebrate one of the greatest eras of Phoenix Suns basketball.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the historic 1992-93 Suns, today the team announced the launch of 90’s Nights, a dedicated theme night series to honor the iconic squad this season. The team will host 12 of the throwback nights throughout the 22-23 season.
The first 90’s Night will tip off on Tuesday, October 25 against the Golden State Warriors at Footprint Center, presented by Fry’s Food Stores. Tuesday’s game will feature 90’s arcade games and a fan photo wall in the Pavilion with CL Smooth and DJ Hercules performing at halftime. Three-time NBA All-Star and Phoenix Suns legend Kevin Johnson will be in attendance.
The team will host a reunion night of the 92-93 roster later this season at a future date to be announced in the coming weeks.
Prior to the season, the Suns announced the return of the classic purple sunburst uniform that debuted 30 years ago, and the Suns will don their throwback threads every 90’s Night.
Fans can enjoy the walk down memory lane with a complete 90’s takeover during the evening from music, in-game promotions, giveaways and more.
The Team Shop will be loaded with an assortment of throwback Suns apparel and Hardwood Classic jerseys.
Led by head coach and Suns Ring of Honor member Paul Westphal, the 1992-93 Suns set a team record with 62 regular season wins – a record that went unsurpassed for 29 years until the Suns won 64 games last season. The Suns defeated the Seattle SuperSonics to become the Western Conference Champions but ultimately fell to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in a hard-fought six game NBA Finals series. This marked the second of three trips to the Finals for the franchise after the first appearance in 1976 and prior to the return in 2021. The Suns wore the rising sunburst jerseys through 2000, never missing the playoffs in the eight-year run the uniforms were in the rotation.
