Five Things You Need to Know About Gerald Green

Who are this year's Phoenix Suns?

With the 2014-15 season coming up fast, we look beyond the box scores to find out a little more about this year's squad, both on and off the court.

1. Bolstered by a believer

Gerald Green's professional basketball path includes seven NBA teams, the D-league and overseas. In a way, he's back where he started. Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough, then with the Boston Celtics, originally scouted Green in high school. It was McDonough's input that led to Boston drafting him and, more recently, Phoenix trading for him in 2013.

2. Four-finger grip

The 28-year-old swingman has four fingers on his dominant (right) hand. That's due to a childhood accident that, frankly, gives us the willies to describe. If you want the details, watch the video below.

3. Birthday notables

Green's date of birth (Jan. 26, 1986) will ring well with Chicago fans. That day marked the last time the Bears won the Super Bowl. It's also the same date (different year) that another high-flying, slam dunk contest-winning, former Suns player was born: Vince Carter.

4. Change of pace

After a long season of endless "play of the day" nominations and crowd-igniting highlights, Green does indeed take it easy during the summer. He lists fishing as his preferred offseason activity. We don't blame you for struggling to picture the high-flying Green settled into a fold-out chair by a peaceful lake. We would also join you in being jealous of both scenarios.

5. Go figure

Green lists Above the Rim as one of his favorite movies. That's appropriate considering Green lives in that general location at least once a game.
