College History

Played four seasons at the University of Georgia...appeared in 128 career games (97 starts) and averaged 14.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.56 blocks, 1.0 assists and 27.9 minutes while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor, 40.3 percent from three-point range and 75.5 percent from the foul line…finished his career at Georgia among the school’s all-time leaders in points (2nd), blocks (3rd), rebounds (4th), free throws made (4th), field goals made (6th), free throw percentage (13th) and field goal percentage (15th)…at the conclusion of his career he ranked among the all-time SEC leaders in offensive (4th) and defensive (4th) rebounds, free throws made (7th) and attempted (8th), minutes played (15th), points (19th), total rebounds, (20th), field goals made (24th) and blocks (25th)…became the first Bulldog in 25 years to earn three All-SEC honors and just the sixth in program history…as a senior in 2017-18, he started all 33 games in which he appeared and averaged 19.3 points (.464 FG%, .801 FT%), 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.48 blocks and 34.3 minutes and became the third Bulldog to win SEC Player of the Year honors as voted by the AP joining Dominique Wilkins (1981) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (2013)…led the SEC in scoring and finished third in the league in rebounding in 2017-18 and was a consensus All-SEC First team selection for the second straight year…his 636 points in his final season marked the most by a senior in school history and the fifth highest single-season total at Georgia…led the team in points, rebounds, blocks, field goals made, free throws made and minutes…was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 26…started 28 of the 29 games he appeared in as a junior in 2016-17 and averaged 18.2 points (.519 FG%, .716 FT%), 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.48 blocks and 29.0 minutes…ranked among the SEC leaders in field goal percentage (2nd), scoring (4th), rebounds (9th) and blocks (9th)…led the Bulldogs in blocks and finished second in points, rebounds, field goals made, free throws made and steals…earned First Team All-SEC honors and was the co-SEC Player of the Week on Jan. 2…started all 34 games he played his sophomore season and averaged 16.5 points (.496 FG%, .783 FT%), 8.0 rebounds, 1.79 blocks and 30.1 minutes…ranked among SEC leaders in blocks (4th), field goal percentage (5th), rebounds per game (6th), scoring average (9th) and free throw percentage (10th) in 2015-16 and earned Second Team All-SEC honors…led the Bulldogs in rebounds, blocks and field goals made and finished second in points and minutes his sophomore season…as a freshman in 2014-15, he appeared in 32 games (two starts) and averaged 5.0 points (.416 FG%, .648 FT%), 4.3 rebounds, 1.41 blocks and 18.2 minutes…led the Bulldogs in blocks and finished fourth in the SEC in blocks per game in his first season.

Full name is Yante Khaaliq Daiyaan Maten.…nicknames are “Yaé”, “Yablo” and “Yeezy”, all of which were given to him by his college teammates…is the son of Bryant Maten and Toiya Paige…has a brother (Laiq Maten) and a sister (Nia Iwusha)…his cousin, Jeff Webb, played wide receiver for three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (2006-08)…majored in Fisheries & Wildlife at the University of Georgia…chose his major because he wants to work as a wildlife biologist one day and start a rehabilitation center for injured animals, primarily for big cats…in his free time he enjoys playing video games and loves to go camping and hiking…participated in the HEAT’s Back to School event at Paul Laurence Dunbar K-8 Center on Aug. 20, 2018 handing out school supplies to students and welcoming them to class…averaged 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds at the 2018 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team…was an early entry candidate in the 2017 NBA Draft before deciding to return for his senior season…was struck by a car while using a pedestrian crosswalk as a freshman at Georgia, causing him to miss one game due to a concussion…played three seasons at Lahser High School until its closure in 2013 and then completed his high school career at its successor Bloomfield Hills High School…had his number (11) retired at Bloomfield Hills HS…was named the 2014 Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior at Bloomfield Hills HS and was named to the All-State “Dream Team” by both the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News…was a two-time All-State selection by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan…averaged 19.8 points, 15.2 rebounds, 6.6 blocks and 4.8 assists as a senior in 2014 and led Bloomfield Hills to a 24-4 overall record and an appearance in the Michigan Class A state championship game…his favorite sport besides basketball is football and his favorite team is his hometown Detroit Lions…wears size 15 sneakers.
