Matthew William Dellavedova was born in 1990 in Maryborough, Australia to Mark and Leanne Dellavedova. He attended the Australian Institute of Sport for three years and competed in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL). In his second season, Dellavedova averaged 15.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while notching five 20-plus-point efforts. He was considered one of the top Australian junior players and was recruited to Saint Mary's College in California. Dellavedova has represented his home country in several events, including the 2009 FIBA U-19 World Championship, the 2014 and 2019 World Cups, and both the 2012 London Summer Olympics and 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
