A Lancaster, California native, his full name is Dewayne Jamal Dedmon ... The son of Thomas Dedmon and Gail Lewis and younger brother of Sabrina and Marina ... Majored in sociology while attending USC ... Chose USC to stay close to his mother and sisters ... Tried out for his high school basketball games his first three years, but could not join the team due to religious reasons; did not play organized basketball until his senior year of high school playing only in a handful of games ... Enrolled at Antelope Valley College as a part-time student to get into the water treatment business and went through a workout that landed him on the basketball team ... During the 2008-09 season, he worked out and learned basketball by videotaping the games when the team played and memorizing every play at all five positions ...
