Patrick Patterson was born in Washington, D.C., to Tywanna and Buster Patterson Jr. Growing up, he played football and soccer in addition to basketball. Patterson attended Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia, and helped lead his team to three consecutive state championships. In 2007, he was named a McDonald's All-American and was considered one of the top power forwards in the nation. In 2019, Patterson participated in the L.A. Clippers Foundation's 14th annual Adopt A Family event in partnership with The Salvation Army Siemon Family Youth and Community Center.
