Isaiah Joe was born on July 2, 1999 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is the son of Derrick and Nicole Joe and has two brothers. Joe was raised in Fort Smith and attended Northside High School. After shooting 41 percent from the field as a sophomore, Joe committed to play college basketball at the University of Arkansas. As a junior, Joe averaged 18.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game, leading Northside to a 7A state title. Joe was a first-team All-State selection. As a senior, Joe captured 2018 Gatorade Arkansas Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors behind 22.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals per game. And Joe again led Northside to the state championship game, where it fell to North Little Rock High School.
