Isaiah Joe was born on July 2, 1999 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is the son of Derrick and Nicole Joe and has two brothers. Joe was raised in Fort Smith and attended Northside High School. After shooting 41 percent from the field as a sophomore, Joe committed to play college basketball at the University of Arkansas. As a junior, Joe averaged 18.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game, leading Northside to a 7A state title. Joe was a first-team All-State selection. As a senior, Joe captured 2018 Gatorade Arkansas Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors behind 22.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals per game. And Joe again led Northside to the state championship game, where it fell to North Little Rock High School. For college, Joe attended the University of Arkansas from 2018 to 2020, where he studied finance and investment management. Fans can follow the former Razorback on Twitter @zai_joe1. Joe made an immediate impact for the Razorbacks, averaging 13.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 34 appearances as a freshman. Joe was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. His 113 made three-pointers broke the Arkansas school record and were tied for the most ever by a freshman in the SEC. Joe also led the conference in three-point percentage (41.4%). He scored a season-high 34 points in a win over FIU in December, hitting 10 threes and going 11-of-14 from the field, overall. As a sophomore, Joe appeared in 26 games and raised his scoring average to 16.9 points per game, adding 4.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals. Joe had 34 points in a win over Ole Miss in January, scoring 26 points in the second half. In early February, Joe underwent surgery on his knee and was ruled out indefinitely. After initially withdrawing his name from the 2020 NBA Draft, Joe ultimately opted to officially declare on August 17.
