Quinndary Vonta Weatherspoon was born in Canton, Mississippi, to Sharon and Tommie Weatherspoon in 1996. He has two younger brothers, Nick and Brandon, both of whom are also basketball players. Weatherspoon attended Velma Jackson High School, where he averaged 16.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.7 steals as a junior. The following year, he posted per-game averages of 19.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.8 steals. Velma Jackson was a powerhouse during Weatherspoon's time at the school, winning three straight state titles from 2012 to 2014. Weatherspoon was named to the 2018-19 All-SEC First Team after earning Second-Team honors in his prior two years with the program. The Canton, Mississippi native was also pegged or the 2015-16 SEC All-Freshman squad. Weatherspoon was second in the SEC in points per game (18.5), third in the SEC in total points (629) and fourth in the conference in field-goal percentage (.508) during his senior year. Scoring was never an issue for the 6-foot-4 guard, as he averaged double figures in points for all four seasons with the program. He was also consistent on both the boards and defense, averaging no less than 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in any of his four college seasons. After an outstanding collegiate career, Weatherspoon was drafted in the second round (49th overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.
