Team USA draws Greece in Group C for FIBA World Cup tournament 2023

The 2023 FIBA World Cup tips off August 25 and concludes on September 10 in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Draw presented by Wanda, was completed Saturday in Manila, Philippines, with all 32 nations now aware of who they will face at the flagship event. 

Laying out the pathway for all teams in their journey to be crowned champions, it has further intensified the excitement ahead of the 19th edition of the prestigious tournament, which will take place from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Draw presented by Wanda was carried out according to the draw principles and the results were as follows:

Group A (Manila) 

  1. Angola
  2. Dominican Republic
  3. Philippines
  4. Italy

Group B (Manila) 

  1. South Sudan
  2. Serbia
  3. China
  4. Puerto Rico

Games for groups A and B will be played at Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines. 

Group C (Manila)

  1. Team USA
  2. Jordan
  3. Greece
  4. New Zealand

Group D (Manila) 

  1. Egypt
  2. Mexico
  3. Montenegro
  4. Lithuania

Games for groups C and D will be played at Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines. 

Group E (Okinawa) 

  1. Germany
  2. Finland
  3. Australia
  4. Japan

Group F (Okinawa)  

  1. Slovenia
  2. Cape Verde
  3. Georgia
  4. Venezuela

Games for groups E and F will be played at Okinawa Arena in Japan. 

Group G (Jakarta)

  1. Iran
  2. Spain
  3. Cote d’Ivoire
  4. Brazil

Group H (Jakarta)

  1. Canada
  2. Latvia
  3. Lebanon
  4. France

Games for groups G and H will be played at Jakarta Arena in Indonesia.

Held at the Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines capital, it proved to be a spectacular event, with Argentina legend and FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Global Ambassador, Luis Scola, on stage to assist with the draw, as well as basketball icon Dirk Nowitzki, a Central Board Member and Chair of the FIBA Players’ Commission. 

It was also attended by the FIBA Central Board, under the leadership of FIBA President Hamane Niang and FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, the Chairs of the three LOCs, local ambassadors and special guests from the host nations, as well as representatives from participating National Federations.

Those present enjoyed performances from global hip-hop artist Saweetie and an array of Filipino favorites including Sarah Geronimo and Billy Crawford.

A huge audience watching around the globe also followed the Draw via the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 website, FIBA’s YouTube channel, the official streaming service Courtside 1891, or many of FIBA’s official broadcast partners from across the world who covered the event on both television and on digital platforms.
