The stage is so big that only two players can fit — the only two qualified to create such a spectacle.
Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu will compete in a special long-distance shootout Saturday during All-Star Weekend. It’s something Ionescu called “a pinch-me moment” and Curry described as “uncharted territory.”
Curry is the NBA’s all-time 3-point leader and Ionescu the WNBA single-season 3-point record holder. Their competition marks the first time an NBA and WNBA player will go head-to-head — or shot for shot.
“I don’t think either of us know the gravity and magnitude this could take on,” she said during a joint Zoom call Tuesday. “We’re just excited to be able to do this.”

The idea hatched soon after Ionescu won the 2023 WNBA All-Star 3-point shootout, scoring 37 points on 25-of-27 shooting — the most in WNBA or NBA history, surpassing Curry’s contest record of 31. The two already had a friendship, and now, a contest.
“This is what sports is about, competing … you look for opportunities to raise the bar,” said Curry.
