Caris LeVert agrees to extension with Nets

Caris LeVert has signed a lucrative three-year extension with the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced on Monday. The move was first reported by ESPN and the New York Post on Sunday.

LeVert, who turned 25 on Sunday, has improved his scoring average every season with the Nets, including a career-high 13.7 points per game in 2018-19. Early in the season, he was the Nets’ best player but suffered a gruesome-looking injury to his right foot in November. The Nets and LeVert were fortunate the injury was not a serious one as he was diagnosed with a dislocated foot.

He returned in February, and by the time the end of the regular season rolled around, he was back in form.

In the five game playoff series against Philadelphia, LeVert averaged 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 49.3 percent overall and 46.2 percent from 3-point range.

The Nets underwent a major roster revival in the offseason, signing All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant (as well as former All-Star DeAndre Jordan) via free agency. LeVert told BrooklynNets.com earlier this summer that he is looking forward to playing alongside his new superstar teammates.

“Obviously very excited, on both ends,” said LeVert. “I feel like we got a lot better as a team. And obviously you hate to see somebody like D’Angelo (Russell) go. He was great for our organization, obviously one of my best friends as well. But good to see him get paid, good team as well. So I think both sides did a good job.”
