The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived guard Patrick McCaw just days after signing him. McCaw — who was an unsigned, restricted free agent to start the season — officially joined the Cavaliers on Dec. 28 after the Golden State Warriors declined to match Cleveland’s two-year, non-guaranteed offer.
NBA teams were available to sign players to 10-day deals starting on Saturday and the Cavs did so on Sunday, adding former Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cameron Payne.
Payne played in 31 games (12 starts) for the Bulls this season, averaging 5.7 points and 2.7 assists in 17.3 minutes per game. Over his NBA career, the fourth-year guard has appeared in 144 games with Chicago and Oklahoma City, averaging 5.8 points and 2.5 assists per game.
If McCaw clears waivers, he would become an unrestricted free agent with the ability to sign with any team in the league. Shams Charania of The Athletic reports the third-year guard is expected to receive interest from “several playoff contenders”.

McCaw played in three games for Cleveland with averages of 1.7 points in 17.6 minutes. He averaged 4.0 points in 15.9 minutes during his first two seasons in the NBA with Golden State.
