The Clippers’ 2020 offseason coaching renovation reportedly continues with two notable additions. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted on Sunday that Chauncey Billups and Larry Drew are finalizing agreements to become assistant coaches alongside recently hired head coach Tyronn Lue.

Billups’ name has been linked to several high-profile jobs in the past, including in Minnesota’s 2019 search for a new president of basketball operations and Indiana’s more recent canvassing for a new head coach. The Pistons legend and 2004 Finals MVP has worked as an analyst for ESPN since retiring in 2014.
Drew enjoyed his own playing career in the 1980s and has been a staple of the NBA coaching ranks since beginning as an assistant with the Lakers in 1992. A former point guard like Billups and Lue, Drew was an assistant under the latter during Clevleand’s championship run in 2016. He also boasts three head coaching stints (Atlanta, Milwaukee and Cleveland) on his resume.
The Clippers are hoping a new coaching staff will play a key role in bouncing back from a disappointing second-round loss to Denver, a series which LA led three games to one.
