SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 92-76, in the Utah Summer League at Vivint Smart Home Arena on Monday.
This was a dominating performance for the Jazz, who led by at least 15 points for the entirety of the second half. A 14-2 run to start the second quarter set the tone, as that gave Utah an insurmountable 18-point lead. The Jazz ended up leading by six points after the first quarter, by 17 points at the half and by 25 points heading into the fourth quarter. Rebounding was an advantage for Utah, as they outrebounded San Antonio by a 52-41 margin.
The Spurs (0-1) only player with more than 10 points was second-year guard Derrick White, who totaled 22 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. Rookie Chimezie Metu finished with 10 points and seven boards. Amida Brimah amassed nine points and nine rebounds.
The Jazz (1-0) had five players reach double figures in scoring. Former Iowa State standout Georges Niang led the team with 17 points and four rebounds. Tony Bradley, a one-and-done at North Carolina two seasons ago, collected 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Rookie Grayson Allen accumulated 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday, with San Antonio playing the Atlanta Hawks and Utah facing off with the Memphis Grizzlies.
