Mexican culture runs deep in the Valley both on and off the court – from arts to food and everything in between, Phoenix is synonymous with the culture. The 2023-24 Phoenix Suns City Edition pays tribute to the Chicano fanbase.
The uniform highlights the classic low rider, a Chicano invention originating in the Southwest United States. They began to flourish among the young Chicanos in the 1940s.
Today, the low rider culture is part of Phoenix’s identity. The city is home to dozens of low rider car clubs and annual shows.
The uniform is crafted with the same attention to detail and purpose to represent this unique style and community on the basketball court. The low rider representation can be seen on the side panels of the jerseys and the shorts, featuring a custom pinstriping design commonly found within low rider paintjobs.
Most notably, the jersey also features a hand-drawn “El Valle” inspired by the Chicano art movement, which represents the dedicated Chicano and Hispanic fans.
