Knicks' Julius Randle (shoulder) to miss 2-3 weeks

The Knicks' All-Star big man initially suffered his injury in a 125-109 win against the Heat on Jan. 27.

Julius Randle is averaging 24 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5 assists per game this season.

New York Knicks star forward Julius Randle will be out of the team’s lineup for 2-3 weeks with a dislocated right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.

Randle suffered his injury on Saturday as the Knicks beat the Miami Heat 125-109. He was injured on a fall late in that game as he was driving to the basket with 4:27 left when Heat rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. stepped into his path to try and take a charge.

After colliding with Jaquez, Randle landed hard and once he finally got up, was holding his right shoulder area and quickly went to the locker room. Randle finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in the Knicks’ sixth straight victory.

Impact on Knicks: New York’s frontcourt was already thinned before this as standout defensive center Mitchell Robinson continues to heal from ankle surgery in December. Aside from Randle, the only other true power forward on the Knicks’ roster is reserve big man Precious Achiuwa, whom the team acquired last month in the OG Anunoby trade with the Toronto Raptors.

Achiuwa has averaged 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in 15.6 minutes per game with the Knicks, but it is unfair to expect him to replicate Randle’s stats (24 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 5 apg) during the star’s absence. What is more likely is for New York to rely on Isaiah Hartenstein, Robinson’s backup, to do more in the middle and expect the Knicks’ cast of guards and forwards to increase the tempo and create more possessions.
