How we got here: Drafted 6th overall in 2020, Okongwu has developed into a standout defender and rebounder for Atlanta. The 6-foot-8 center averaged 9.9 points and 7.2 rebounds over 80 games last season. The deadline for him to sign a rookie-scale contract extension was 6 p.m. ET today.
Okongwu is positioned to play a key role for the Hawks this season as they look to improve in year two of the Trae Young-Dejounte Murray backcourt.
