Egypt is making its seventh World Cup appearance and is ranked as the 55th best team in the FIBA World rankings. They are led by new coach Roy Rana, a Canada native who took over the team in January 2022. Amr Abdelhalim, Ehab Saleh, Assem Marei and Anas Mahmoud are the big four for Egypt in this year’s tournament.
Coach: Roy Rana
What to Watch
Amr Abdelhalim has the ability to score in bunches and could be a breakout candidate in the group stage. The 31-year-old is one of Egypt’s veteran leaders who has experience playing with the national team dating back to the 2014 World Cup. In 12 African Qualifiers games, he averaged 12.6 PPG, and in Egypt’s final qualifying game against South Sudan, Abdelhalim dropped 42 points, the most points in a single African Qualifiers game and second most in World Cup Qualifiers history.
