Report: Grizzlies guard Danny Green joins ESPN in part-time analyst role

Memphis swingman Danny Green will serve as a part-time analyst for ESPN while continuing to play for the Grizzlies in 2022-23.

Danny Green is entering his 14th NBA season and his 1st with the Grizzlies.

Danny Green has reportedly agreed to a TV deal with ESPN to serve as a part-time analyst for the network this season, all while continuing to play for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2022-23, too.

Per Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Green will make 15 appearances on ESPN to give his analysis and opinions on the NBA.

“When I’m done playing, it’s something that I always wanted to venture out into,” Green said, per the newspaper. “This is an opportunity to build a resume and can get some reps.”

Green is entering his first season with the Grizzlies after being dealt in the offseason as a part of the trade that sent De’Anthony Melton to the Philadelphia 76ers. A former second-round pick in 2009, Green is entering his 14th season and has been a key part of three championship teams and played in four NBA Finals as well. Overall, he has averaged 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 39.9% on 3-pointers in his career.

He hosted his own podcast called “Inside the Green Room with Danny Green” from 2018-22. A former standout at North Carolina, Green told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that former ESPN anchor Stuart Scott (a fellow UNC grad) was someone he idolized the most.

“When I thought I wasn’t going to make it in basketball, I wanted to be like him,” Green said.

Green told the newspaper that his ESPN appearances won’t impact his injury rehab work in Memphis. During the 76ers’ playoff run last season, Green tore his ACL in the Eastern Conference semifinals against Miami.

Green’s foray into television brings to mind another current player serving as a part-time analyst, too. Golden State Warriors standout forward Draymond Green has a similar partnership with Turner Sports. He signed a multi-year agreement in early 2022 that includes him making appearances on “Inside the NBA” and fulfilling “content initiatives throughout the Turner Sports and Bleacher Report portfolio.”
