Nuggets vs. Pistons Preview: Side With Denver and the Over in a Battle of Short-Handed Teams

Betsperts analyst Ron Klos gives his best bets for the Denver Nuggets vs. Detroit Pistons.

The 10-6 Denver Nuggets will host the 3-15 Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night at Ball Arena with tipoff set for 9:00 PM ET. The short-handed Nuggets are coming off a surprise win on Sunday night in Dallas. Denver did not practice yesterday and has not updated the status of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon, who did not make the two-game trip to Dallas. Jokic (three games) and Murray (two games) are in health and safety protocol, and Gordon has missed three games with a non-COVID illness. The Pistons are coming off their seventh consecutive defeat, losing at Sacramento on Saturday. Along with star guard Cade Cunningham, Detroit is also without starters Isaiah Stewart and Saddiq Bey.

Nuggets vs. Pistons Best Bets

Nuggets -5.5 (-110 DraftKings)

With Michael Porter Jr, Bones Hyland, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Aaron Gordon (who is trending towards playing), the Nuggets still have plenty of firepower in their home matchup against the worst team in the league. They showed their grit and tenacity in beating a good Dallas team. Porter has actually under-performed of late and should be able to rebound in a terrific matchup against Detroit.

The Pistons are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games. This season, the Nuggets are 3-2 ATS at home. With the spread only 5.5 points, and being a home game, Denver should be able to push past that number in this game.

Risk: 1.1 units on DraftKings to win 1 unit. (Playable to -115)

Nuggets vs. Pistons – Game Total Over 222 Points (-110 DraftKings)

With this number continuing to drop due to the injuries on both sides, it is low enough at 222 to jump on the over. Both teams play at a high pace and Detroit is 5-1-1 to the over in their last seven games overall. The Pistons are horrible defensively ranking 29th in the NBA in defensive rating. In their last two games they allowed the low-scoring Lakers to post 128 points and then followed that up by allowing Sacramento to score 137. Detroit still has scoring punch of its own with rookie Jaden Ivey and Bojan Bogdanovic each averaging over 20 points per game on this current road trip.

Risk: 1.1 Units on DraftKings to win 1 unit. (Playable to -115)
