2005 - Chick Hearn Night

On November 28th, the Lakers remembered legendary Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn in several ways at the game against the New Orleans Hornets. First, all fans attending the game received a complimentary Chick Hearn keychain. Second, a book drive was held that evening, and all fans attending the game were encouraged to bring a new children’s book. All books were donated in Chick’s memory to Florence Avenue Elementary School. Thanks to the generosity of Laker fans, the new Lakers Youth Foundation and Wonder of Reading library at Florence Avenue will receive almost 1,000 new books.

Lastly, at halftime, the 2005 Chick Hearn Memorial Scholarship was presented to Jesse Aron, a senior at the University of Southern California and a Los Angeles native. Jesse is a sports anchor and reporter for USC’s Annenberg TV news, and the award also includes an internship with FSN West, where Jesse will assist with the production of live pre-game programming and game telecasts. In 2002, the Lakers established a scholarship fund in Chick’s name to support a deserving broadcast journalism student at the USC Annenberg School for Communication.
