Overview

Jazian Gortman is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard from YNG Dreamers of the Overtime Elite program. The 20-year-old racked up at least two steals in 15 of 17 games this season, including four games with at least four steals. In total, Gortman averaged 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals. The level of competition in Overtime Elite is a hotly debated subject matter among evaluators, but Gortman’s 45.3% shooting and 80.8% free-throw clip on 3.5 attempts per game are green flags for his style. The YNG Dreamers lost in a championship battle to Amen and Ausar Thompson’s squad, the City Reapers.

Analysis

Gortman’s specialties are defensive tenacity and shifting gears offensively. Defensively, he was among the most vocal and energetic defenders at the NBA Combine, routinely picking up challenging assignments and oozing competitive fire. Offensively, Gortman is a score-first guard that has yet to functionally harness his athleticism. The flashes of stopping on a dime and rising into his jumper are exciting — ditto for his repertoire of finishing moves. However, he merely flashes — severely lacking consistently.

Projection

Gortman shot 32.9% on 4.7 3-point attempts per game, which is a subpar but respectable figure. His 3-point shooting is a key swing factor for the athletic guard. His handle is smooth, and his defense is a plus — growing into a more polished offensive player is the mission. Comparisons can be made to Miles McBride and Jevon Carter.
