About Dewan Hernandez
Dewan Hernandez is a coordinated big man who put together an efficient campaign as a sophomore before losing his junior season to eligibility concerns. Widely regarded as a top-25 prospect in the high school class of 2016 out of Norland High School, Hernandez capped his prep career with an appearance in the McDonald’s All-American game. Averaging 5.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as a true freshman, The Miami native showed significant improvement as a sophomore contributing 11.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game two years ago for Jim Larranaga’s Hurricanes.
- Possesses great size for a center measured at 6’10.25 in shoes at the NBA Combine with a 7’1.75 wingspan and a lean 233-pound frame. Has nice mobility for a big man and a far stronger base than he did early in his career.
- Figured to play a prominent role as the Hurricane’s main reference inside this season. Was an efficient contributor two years ago finding shots in a variety of ways inside and even flashing some ability to drive the ball from the mid-range.
- Competes defensively and has solid feet for his size. Provided some value as a rim protector and area rebounder. Has room to improve as a ball screen defender.
- Allowed 0.850 points per Post Up possession holding his own inside in the ACC.
