Karolyn Plummer started her career as a teacher. She taught in Compton for 17 years and has a master’s in teaching. Karolyn gives all-out effort to everything she does, including baking. When she baked her first red velvet cake, it was from scratch after trying it only once for a family gathering. The feedback from her family was so positive, it was suggested she sell it. Karolyn took her cake to the bake sale at the elementary school where she was teaching, and gained more rave reviews. She always thought of herself as more of a cook than a baker, but after early success with family, friends and colleagues, she started taking baking seriously in 1999.

With her brother’s help, she started selling her baked goods around the community in salons, barbershops, churches, and vending in the neighborhood. Even in the early days, Karolyn was dedicated to providing an exceptional customer experience. She promised her customers all of the desserts were made from scratch with quality ingredients, and she always offered a money-back guarantee if customers’ expectations weren’t met.

After testing the local market, Karolyn had to make a decision — stick with her teaching career or take a leap of faith and work full-time on her growing business. Through grit, hustle, and relentless passion, Karolyn opened the doors to Sweet Red Peach in 2011.

From day one, Sweet Red Peach has held true to its principles of making everything from scratch. All of the cakes, fillings and candies are homemade. Long-time customers say you can taste the difference.

The business’s name is derived from Karolyn’s favorite things to bake. “Sweet” as in Sweet Potato Pie, “Red” as in Red Velvet, and “Peach” as in Peach Cobbler. Celebrity pastry chef Duff Goldman proclaimed her German Chocolate Cake the best he’s ever tasted. As far as that money-back guarantee, no one has ever asked for their money back.

Karolyn was born and raised in LA. She has watched Inglewood change over the years, especially recently with the launch of SoFi Stadium, and looks forward to the Clippers’ new arena opening in the neighborhood. She says Sweet Red Peach is intended as an escape for all who visit, “The aromas of the bakery take you away and all your problems are left outside the door.” Order Sweet Red Peach’s game day offer, 'Go Clippers' Red & Blue Velvet Cake, in-store and explore the menu at at: www.sweetredpeach.com.
