Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Named to World Team For 2019 Mtn Dew Ice Rising Stars

The NBA today announced that Clippers rookie guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named to the World Team for the 2019 Mtn Dew Ice Rising Stars at NBA All-Star Weekend, as selected by NBA assistant coaches. The game will be played on Friday, Feb. 15 (9 p.m. ET) at Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

The 11th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Gilgeous-Alexander has appeared in all 51 games for the Clippers this season (42 starts), averaging 9.9 points, 2.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.02 steals, while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line in 26.1 minutes. He leads all rookies on teams with a record above .500 in both scoring and minutes per game. In NBA history, only Larry Bird and Kyrie Irving have matched Gilgeous-Alexander’s production as a rookie in points, rebounds, assists and shooting splits.

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Gilgeous-Alexander is on pace to become the only Canadian rookie in league history to average as many points (9.9) and assists (2.9).
