Paul Presented With April’s NBA Cares Community Assist Award

LOS ANGELES – As Chris Paul continues to demonstrate his skill on the court, it’s his actions off the court that were recognized prior to Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.

Paul was presented with the David Robinson Plaque as the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente for the month of April, recognizing his philanthropy, charitable efforts and contributions in the community.

“That’s an honor and a privilege,” Paul said Wednesday morning. “I didn’t find that out until yesterday. It’s cool they’ll give me the award. But I think the award goes to my parents, my wife, my brother, Carmen (Wilson) who works with me, and even the Clippers organization who’s helped with a lot of that stuff. It’s just part of giving back.”

Paul earned the honor for his community work through his Chris Paul Family Foundation, formerly known as the CP3 Foundation. Paul and the Chris Paul Family Foundation helped team with the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation to open a newly refurbished Boys & Girls Club in Watts earlier this month. In addition to earning the award, Paul and the NBA will donate $10,000 to the Chris Paul Family Foundation.

Each team has the opportunity to nominate a player for the award. The 2014-15 season-long NBA Cares Community Assist Award is determined by an NBA panel of judges and an end-of-season voting platform on social media. The nominees are the seven monthly winners and three additional players chosen by the NBA. The NBA is currently featuring the 10 nominees in total at nba.com/communityassist.
