Redick To Be First Active NBA Player With Weekly Podcast

Rowan Kavner Digital Content Coordinator

LOS ANGELES – J.J. Redick is now a pioneer.

The Clippers’ starting shooting guard is the first active NBA player to create his own weekly show during the regular season with a new podcast he’s now hosting.

“I’d never listened to a podcast in my life prior to December,” Redick said Wednesday. “They approached me, and this is something I’m interested in post-career.”

Redick will host “The Vertical Podcast with J.J. Redick” as part of Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski’s “The Vertical Podcast with Woj” and will publish new episodes each Tuesday.

“Woj is someone that I’ve known for a long time,” Redick said. “I’m excited to work under his platform.”

The podcast won’t just be about basketball, though that will obviously play a part. Redick said the podcasts will mostly be in real-time, and he’s going to record two this weekend.

“So we’ll discuss the Chicago game,” Redick said, when asked if he’d discuss the back-to-back wins.

The podcast will be launched by DGital Media , a creator of high quality audio entertainment in sports, entertainment, business and politics, as well as Yahoo Sports. In addition to the regularly weekly show, there will also be regular breaking news reports throughout the year.

According to a release, the goal is to bring a lineup of guests “that will bring fans of all sports closer to the weekly goings-on in the NBA than ever before.” The podcast will be available on iTunes, Stitcher and TuneIn.

“We don’t think there can be more of a unique offering than a weekly look into the goings-on of an NBA season through the eyes and words of one of its more seasoned veterans, said Chris Corcoran, chief content officer of DGital Media, in a news release. “’The Vertical Podcast with J.J. Redick won’t just be about basketball; it will give fans a great listen into the storytelling narrative of an elite athlete living and playing in Los Angeles, whose background appeals to such a wide audience.”

Redick’s currently enjoying the best statistical season of his career, posting career highs with a 48.4 shooting percentage and a 48.5 3-point percentage while averaging 16.4 points per game for the second straight year.
