Injury Report: Paul To Play Vs. Jazz, Davis Could Return Wednesday

Rowan Kavner

LOS ANGELES – Chris Paul will play tonight against the Jazz after spraining his foot Sunday against the Kings and returning to the game.

Head coach Doc Rivers made that clear before the game and also said Glen Davis could return from his groin injury Wednesday against the Warriors. The status tonight for Jamal Crawford (ribs) is still up in the air.

As for “Big Baby” Davis, Rivers said he’s hopeful to get the forward back in the lineup for the first time this year Wednesday. He believes Davis and Spencer Hawes can play well together on the second unit.

“He’ll be able to have some practices,” Rivers said. “Not a lot, but he’s been working. Tomorrow even, we’re not going to practice, but we’ll bring in six guys for him to play 3-on-3 full court. It’s tough. When you start out the season injured and join in, it’s hard. So it’ll be hard.”

Davis said he feels good and wants to get back on the court but admitted he’s “going to be burning lungs” when he gets back initially.

“It’s tough, but you’ve just got to get out there,” he said. “That’s the only way I can get in shape is to get out there. We don’t have that many practices. I would like to get some practices in and stuff like that, but I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”

Davis said he’s willing to fill whatever role he has to going forward. He said it’s important to get some practice time to get his timing down with the second group. He hasn’t practiced yet, so if he’s going to play Wednesday, there may not be a ton of time to get ready.
