CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired the rights to Kay Felder, the No. 54 pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for cash considerations, Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced tonight from Cleveland Clinic Courts.

“We are excited to welcome Kay Felder to the Cavs’ family,” said Griffin. “Kay is a dynamic playmaker, and most importantly, the type of person and competitor that we want to add to our locker room.”

Felder (5-9, 176) was the only player in the country to rank in the Top 5 this past season in both scoring (fourth, 24.4 ppg) and assists (first, 9.3 apg) and became just the fifth player in Division I history over the last 20 years to average over 23 points and six assists in a single season. In 2015-16, Felder appeared in 35 contests, averaging 24.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 2.0 steals, while shooting .848 from the charity stripe. Over his three-year collegiate career at Oakland, he played in 101 games with averages of 17.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 35.9 minutes per game. He owns the Horizon League’s career assists mark with 788 over his tenure.

Felder, the Horizon League Player of the Year, was also named Third Team All-American by the AP, NABC and The Sporting News. He scored 20 points in all but five games this season and recorded 10 or more assists 19 times. The Detroit native set a league record for most Player of the Week honors in a single season with seven and posted the only triple-doubles in school history with two this past season.
