Heavy Traffic Expected for Cavs Opening Night

The most anticipated season in Cavaliers history tips off this Thursday, October 30th at 8:00 p.m., when the Cavs host the New York Knicks at Quicken Loans Arena!

This is an exciting time for Downtown Cleveland and due to the many activities taking place both inside and outside the arena, heavy traffic conditions are expected and parking will be limited in and around the Gateway District. For more information on the Cavs Opening Night events CLICK HERE.

Those attending the Cavs season opener and outdoor festivities on Thursday are strongly urged to consider the following recommendations:

  • ARRIVE EARLY. TNT and the Cavaliers will host a FREE fan event directly across the street from The Q in the Huron (Stark) surface parking lot beginning at 4:00 p.m. Quicken Loans Arena doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 8:00 p.m. tipoff.
  • Use RTA. The RTA offers services to The Q from all parts of Cuyahoga County by bus or rapid transit. With over 8,000 free parking spots at RTA’s various rail stations, it’s hard to beat the convenience and affordability! For more info on RTA routes and schedules, visit www.rideRTA.com. Drop-off at the RTA Rapid station at Tower City Center allows event attendees to take a five-minute walk through the RTA Walkway to The Q. The RTA Walkway opens three hours prior to the game and remains open for approximately two hours after the final buzzer.
  • Parking will be very limited at the Gateway East Garage. There are more than 10,000 spaces available at the various surface lots and garages located within a 5-10 minute walk from the Gateway complex.
  • If driving, understand that traffic patterns around the Gateway District may be altered to accommodate easy traffic flow.
  • Be advised that a local on-street parking ban goes into effect for all Gateway events.
  • Car-pool if possible.
  • Be patient and drive safely.

REMEMBER When Leaving Downtown:
For those who travel south on I-77, the Ontario Street on ramp is now permanently closed. Traffic which previously entered I-77 from Ontario Street is now using an upgraded boulevard along Orange Avenue to access I-77 south. East 14th Street to I-77 south is closed through mid-November. Motorists can learn more here.
