Cavs, StockX Team Up to Bring Sneaker Marketplace to NBA Players

The Cleveland Cavaliers and StockX, the world's first 'Stock Market of Things,’ have teamed up to bring the sneaker, streetwear, watches, and handbags online marketplace to the Cavaliers and visiting team locker rooms at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Players, coaches and team personnel will have the ability to browse and make purchases on a fully-functioning GIANT 55-inch iPhone PADZILLA featuring the StockX app that is mounted on a wall inside each locker room.

The StockX app on the PADZILLA will function identically to the user experience on an iPhone or iPad. Each user will have the ability to scroll through the vast collection of authentic gear available to the public on the StockX app and login to their personal account to bid and make purchases. Team personnel can power off the PADZILLA at their discretion. This unique and innovative activation marks the first major league sports team partnership for StockX.

“StockX is all about access -- access to the products that people covet and would not otherwise be able to find," said Scott Cutler, CEO of StockX. "We could not be more thrilled to partner with the Cavs to bring that notion of access to life in a first-of-its-kind format. We're always looking for new and innovative ways to connect with our customers both on and offline and to be able to do so with this community of customers -- one that so closely aligns with the rich cultural history at the core of our brand -- is incredibly exciting."

In addition, the new partnership also includes StockX-branded player arrival path signage for the Cavs and visiting teams, as well as a prominent creative presence inside and outside the visiting team locker room. When entering the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse from the underground garage, the arrival path signage is located in the hallway leading to both the Cavs and visiting team locker rooms. The hallway is a hot spot for Cavaliers and visiting team broadcasters and team content creators to photograph and showcase the players pre-game outfits and unique style as they arrive for the game. StockX will also be strongly featured inside the visiting team locker room with tasteful branding on the walls and lockers throughout the space. Fans will also see StockX on LED signage courtside and throughout the bowl of the FieldHouse.

“We are proud to team up with StockX, the premier online marketplace for high-demand and limited-edition products,” said Nic Barlage, Cavaliers President of Business Operations. “The NBA has always been closely tied to fashion, streetwear and sneaker culture, so having the ability to connect our team, and all NBA teams visiting Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to StockX through this unique and innovative partnership is a natural fit and one we think will deeply resonate with our players and visiting teams alike.”

The partnership will also feature two web and social media content series that showcases Cavaliers players with streetwear and sneaker culture. “Fact or Cap” will highlight little known facts with a few 'cap' (false) claims mixed in. “History of Heat” will recap Cavs players style, for example, favorite past game shoe, pre-game outfit, etc. Each series will be featured on Cavs.com and on the team and StockX social media channels.

In addition, in the summer of 2020, StockX will partner with the Cavaliers on an engaging community initiative connected to the team’s Youth Basketball Program. The Cavaliers Youth Hoops Program consists of Cavs Academy Camps & Clinics; Jr Cavs leagues and Cavs Elite Tournaments. Each are designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball in a fun and positive atmosphere and are hosted throughout the entire state of Ohio and region. More information about this initiative will be released at a later date.

Detroit-based StockX was launched in February 2016 as the world's first 'Stock Market of Things'. The platform enables consumers to buy and sell across five categories: sneakers, watches, handbags, streetwear and collectibles.

StockX provides real-time, credible pricing complete with live bids and asks, as well as timestamped transactions, so all participants can make their buy and sell decisions based on transparent and visible information. It also provides in-depth market analysis, individual portfolio tracking, historical sales and volume metrics. All products are physically inspected and authenticated by StockX.

All trades are completely anonymous on StockX for both buyers and sellers. This allows for complete protection against biases and other factors that would otherwise distort a free, visible and open marketplace.
