Cavs Announce $250,000 in Special Charity Donations

As part of their ongoing 50th Season celebration, the Cleveland Cavaliers are proud to announce $250,000 of donations to local charitable organizations. Through the Cavaliers Community Foundation, the team will donate $50,000 every month for five months to local non-profit organizations. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank will be the first recipient, with the Cavs donating $50,000 to their BackPacks for Kids program.

The Food Bank’s BackPacks for Kids program provides children with food to take home over the weekend. During the school year, the Food Bank partners with schools and nonprofit after-school programs to provide bags of food that are sent home with each child on Fridays to sustain them through the weekend. More than 17,000 back packs of food will be provided to children in need across Northeast Ohio as a result of this donation. The Food Bank will be presented with their donation check at this Saturday’s home game against Portland at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

The Cavs will announce a new donation recipient each month for the remainder of the 2019-20 season. Along with the monetary donation, Cavs employees will volunteer to serve at that month’s designated charity location and with their respective programs.

“Community support is something we care deeply about. As we celebrate 50 seasons of Cavaliers basketball, we also wanted to extend our impact even further for those that need assistance. Especially with the children in our local community and neighborhoods,” said Cavaliers and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse CEO Len Komoroski. “This season-long donation and volunteer service program is another way for us to offer a heart-felt thank you to this wonderful community we proudly call home and have been a part of for five decades.”
