Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 questions that will shape the 2019-20 season

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Cavaliers officially open training camp on Tuesday. But before the team gathers for the start of two-a-day-workouts, they will hold their annual media day on Monday afternoon.

It’s a chance to pose for pictures, crack a few jokes and crank up the excitement for the 2019-20 season. It’s also an opportunity for new head coach John Beilein and the players to field questions. While many queries will come their way, the most pertinent ones can’t truly be answered until the start of the regular season on Oct. 23 in Orlando.

These are the five questions that will help shape the season:

Can Darius Garland and Collin Sexton coexist?

The Cavs invested the fifth-overall pick in Garland, the sweet-shooting lead guard who played just four full games at Vanderbilt.

That night, a few members of the organization, including general manager Koby Altman and Collin Sexton, brought up the Portland Trail Blazers’ talented backcourt as a model to emulate. It’s not the traditional 1-2 combo, sacrificing size, length and defense for an added offensive punch. But it's been effective, with the Blazers becoming a playoff mainstay the last few years. Like Garland and Sexton, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum were both college point guards. Since coming to the NBA, McCollum has been forced to play a different role.
