INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – Cavaliers rookie Darius Garland had his first NBA media day Monday at Cleveland Clinic Courts and talked about how he’s hopeful of what he and Collin Sexton can do in the backcourt. Garland also spoke about how he can be a leader on the team in his first season.
Here are some highlights of what Garland said Monday:
Playing with Collin Sexton
A point guard out of Vanderbilt, Garland praised Sexton’s talent. Both players are effective with the ball in their hands as the lead guard. But Garland mentioned how both can also play shooting guard.
“He’s really talented,” Garland said. “I mean, he can do a lot of things on the floor. And I can definitely learn from that.”

New Cavs coach John Beilein started things off and touched on how the franchise will look toward player development and improving as the season progresses.

Development
The Cavs are coming off a 19-63 season, and for the first time since 2014, they missed the playoffs.

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – Cavaliers big man Kevin Love is heading into his 12th NBA season, and with a young team around him, he is positioned to be one of the leaders.
The Cavs had their annual media day at Cleveland Clinic Courts on Monday, and Love spoke about helping develop the young players. He also touched on how his vacations this offseason helped him have some balance before the season.

Learning from injuries
Love has struggled with injuries over the past few years, but he said overcoming them is “a way to balance yourself back out.”
