CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland Cavaliers head coach John Beilein lost just 15 games over his final two seasons at the University of Michigan -- a number he was reminded of prior to Tuesday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons.

In his inaugural NBA season, Beilein has already hit that mark. It took a little more than a month.

The Cavs lost to the Pistons, 127-94. It’s their fourth straight loss and 10th in 11 games. After a rapid -- and better than expected -- start to his NBA career, Beilein’s Cavs are fading quickly, plummeting to the depths of the Eastern Conference.

Cleveland Cavaliers, coach John Beilein not flinching in face of disappointing losing stretch

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Head coach John Beilein didn’t say much to his team following a disappointing 127-94 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.

He wanted to watch the video first. He needed to pick out the correctable mistakes.

Moments after, as he addressed the media, this particular loss was still a bit too raw. He didn’t have many answers, no way to explain how the Cavs spent the last few days raving about their recent practice sessions only to come out and, in the words of leader Kevin Love, “lay an egg.”

“I don’t think you can (explain it),” Beilein said. “I didn’t even want to explain it to the team. Our offense was not good, our defense was equally bad. I’m disappointed, but not going to flinch. We’ll learn from it. Tomorrow we’ll have a video session on this, we’ll have a good strength-building session and we’ll find ways to grow even from that very humbling loss to Detroit.”

Pistons 127, Cavs 94: Defensive effort lacking as ‘training camp’ fails to provide results

CLEVELAND — After a brutal two-week stretch of playing every other day with two back-to-backs thrown in, Cavaliers coach John Beilein took advantage of a rare break to hold “training camp” Sunday and Monday.

A few basics were included, but the main goal was determining the best direction for the team at the quarter mark of the season.

“Play-calling, positioning, defense, how people are playing us, how we should be playing more people, just cleaning up a lot of things,” Beilein said pregame.

“I know we got better. We’re as good as you can be for a team right now that is 5-14. We’ve just got to press on and get better.”
