Cavaliers, Monsters and Canton Charge Family Gives Back to Communities as part of Season of Giving and Week of Service

CLEVELAND, OH - November 15, 2011 - To start the holiday season, the Cleveland Cavaliers staff, coaches and player Legends, Lake Erie Monsters staff, coaches and players and Canton Charge staff, coaches and players are connecting with the community all over the region through a variety of hands-on service projects.

As part of the 2011 NBA Development League Week of Service (November 14th through November 23rd) and before the inaugural 2011-12 season gets underway, the Canton Charge is giving back to its new community while encouraging volunteerism and generating awareness about the importance of community service. The NBADL Cares Week of Service seeks to expand the impact of volunteer work in existing organizations and encourage individuals to make a difference in their communities.

Additionally, the Monsters have joined the Cavaliers in the NBA Season of Giving to make this holiday a better one for local families. The Season of Giving is an NBA Cares league initiative that runs from Thanksgiving through the New Year, and celebrates the holidays with a series of charitable visits and events designed to help feed the hungry, visit with hospitalized children and provide needed resources to the underserved.

Canton Charge Fills the Hearts and Bellies of Friends from Refuge of Hope
Tuesday, November 15th

WHAT: To kick off the NBADL Week of Service, Canton Charge players, along with Head Coach Alex Jensen, will have an opportunity to get to know more than 200 members of the Canton community by teaming up with volunteers to serve a hot meal to underserved at the Refuge of Hope.

Cavs and Monsters Serve Up Dinner and a Show!
Thursday, November 17th

WHAT: Cavs basketball operations team members, along with mascots Moondog and Sir C.C., Cavs Scream Team and Cavalier Girls will carve the turkeys and the Lake Erie Monsters will carve the ice as the teams host 150 guests from Project ACT for a hearty family-style Thanksgiving dinner and an action-packed Monsters game as the team faces off against the Hamilton Bulldogs!

Canton Charge Encourages Fans to Drive By and Donate!
Friday, November 18th

WHAT: The Canton Charge will join 98.1 WKDD, My 101.7, Rock 106.9 and 640 WHLO for the Long Haul Against Hunger, an all day drive-by-and-donate event on Friday, November 18th. Live broadcasts will take place from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as volunteers collect food to benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank at the Thursday’s Plaza in Belden Village. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Ron Marhofer Auto Family presented challenges to the community and will be matching every dollar that is donated on November 18th up to $20,000.

Monsters Step Out of the Office and into the Kitchen for Local Families

WHAT: The Lake Erie Monsters front office team will take time out to serve hot meals for families in need at Saint Herman's House of Hospitality in Cleveland.

Monsters Mascot Sully Laces Up and Hits the Road for a Great Cause!
Thursday, November 24th

WHAT: Monsters mascot Sully will be participating in the 30th Annual Turkey Trot through Downtown Cleveland on Thanksgiving morning and is asking all Monsters fans to participate by bringing canned goods or other non-perishable food items to the Galleria on the morning of the race. All goods will benefit the St. Malachi House and will be used to help local families in need.

Cavs and Monsters Deliver the Spirit of the Holidays with Annual Toy Drive
Friday, November 25th through Saturday, December 17th

WHAT: Cleveland Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters fans can help underserved children throughout the Northeast Ohio community enjoy the magic of the holiday season by donating new, unwrapped toys to the 2011 Cavaliers and Monsters Holiday Toy Drive from November 25th to December 17th.
WHERE: At every Monsters home game starting with the Monsters vs. Hamilton Bulldogs game on Friday, November 25th, fans can drop off toys at collection bins located at every entrance of Quicken Loans Arena. In addition, the public is invited to drop off toys at Quicken Loans Arena at the Cavaliers Team Shop during regular business hours (Monday - Friday 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) and receive a 10% discount!

All Aboard the Polar Express!
Wednesday, December 7th

WHAT: The Cavaliers coaching staff will step aboard the Polar Express and join excited children from local area non-profits as part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Railroad’s Charity Day. The Cavs will read the classic Christmas story, The Polar Express, to the boxcar of children and will enjoy holiday cookies and cocoa throughout their journey to the North Pole.

Monsters Keeps the Community Warm with Holiday Coat Drive
Monday December 19th

WHAT: Keeping the community warm one generous donation at a time, the Monsters will be collecting new and gently worn coats for Coats for Kids at their annual Monsters Season Ticket Holder Holiday Party.
