Wine and Gold Heart Health

With February marking American Heart Month, the Cleveland Cavaliers are doing their part to help local youngsters learn the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle. The Cavs teamed up with Cleveland Clinic and Savorfull to show 30 fifth graders from Cleveland’s William Cullen Bryant School that you’re never too young to start practicing healthy habits

Cavs player Matthew Dellavedova hosted the students at Cleveland Clinic Courts on Monday for an interactive, comprehensive lesson on heart health as part of the team’s Fit as a Pro program, presented by Medical Mutual and Giant Eagle and in association with Musselman’s Apple Sauce.

For all your Cavs in the Community news.

Dr. Dermot Phelan, Director of the Sports Cardiology Center at Cleveland Clinic, led the group through a fun and educational special “heart edition” of “Jeopardy.” Cleveland Clinic Director of Cardiac Rehab, Dr. Gordon Blackburn, took the kids through exercises they can do at home to maintain their cardiovascular health.

Cavs team nutritionist Stacy Goldberg, MPH, RN, BSN, helped the students learn about making sound choices through food label reading exercises.  The CEO & Founder of Savorfull also assisted the group in making their own heart-healthy snacks.
