On Thursday, March 19, Warriors guard Shaun Livingston  joined Warriors employees, fans and season ticket holders as well as San  Francisco Rec and Park staff, Esurance associates and 40 students from  neighboring Bret Harte Elementary School for a WE G.I.V.E. Volunteer Service  Event in San Francisco’s Gilman Park. Livingston joined the group to help  remove invasive plant species and overgrown shrubs, pick up trash and debris,  plant flowers and decorate Bret Harte Elementary’s basketball court Warriors  blue and gold.

“I’m thrilled to be here with Esurance, SF Rec and Park and  the best fans in the NBA at Gilman Park today and make a great place for these  kids to play,” said Livingston.

Over 150 excited fans from across the Bay Area teamed up at  Gilman Park and Bret Harte Elementary School to make the outdoor park and  playground area a safe and exciting place for community members of all ages to  enjoy.

“Gilman Park is a beautiful and much loved outdoor ground in  the San Francisco community, and we are so pleased that WE G.I.V.E. volunteers  could come out and make the park area safer and more enjoyable space,” said SF  Recreation and Parks Director of Volunteer Programs Kimberly Kiefer.

Livingston joined Esurance Vice President of Marketing  Cyndie Beckwith and local Bret Harte Elementary students to paint the school’s  basketball courts Warriors blue and gold, as well as placing a large Golden  State Warriors logo at center court for the students to enjoy.

“Esurance and the Warriors have been such strong partners  and it always makes a difference when a player like Shaun can join us and make  a difference in our community,” said Beckwith.

The volunteer group then assembled on the WE G.I.V.E. dais  to thank all the volunteers and celebrate the improvements that their time  spent in the community have made in the lives of the nearby students and  community members. Sharon Roberts, a 28-year season ticket holder, planted new  sunflowers outside Bret Harte Elementary School and enjoyed the opportunity to  join Livingston and other Warriors fans to serve the greater good.

“I believe that wonderful events such as these reveal the  goodness in sports because the fans and players can work together to make our  world a more beautiful place,” said Roberts.

This is the third and final WE G.I.V.E. volunteer event of  the 2014-15 season, as Warriors players and representatives of the Warriors and  Esurance teamed up with Warriors season ticket holders and additional fans to  Guide, Inspire, Volunteer and Educate through a variety of volunteer events to  support Bay Area community organizations.

“Anytime you get a chance to give back to the best fans in  the NBA and be a part of the community that supports you night in and night  out, it’s a special experience,” said Livingston.

Earlier this season, Warriors guard Klay  Thompson joined 150 volunteers to build sandwiches and distribute bagged  lunches to Bay Area shelters and non-profit organizations as part of the  #HashtagLunchbag movement on January 6, 2015. On October 22, 2014, the WE  G.I.V.E. platform visited Habitat For Humanity Greater San Francisco to  rebuild homes destroyed by a recent three-alarm fire at Habitat Terrace.

Warriors star Klay Thompson joined 150 volunteers from the Golden State Warriors front office, direct-to-consumer insurance company Esurance, the Oakland Marriott City Center and Warriors Season Ticket Holders and fans as part of the latest WE G.I.V.E. volunteer group. Thompson joined the volunteers to build sandwiches and  distribute bagged lunches to Bay Area shelters and non-profit organizations as  part of the #HashtagLunchbag movement.

“It’s great to be here  giving back to the community with Esurance and Warriors fans for #HashtagLunchbag,” said Thompson. “It feels great to make a difference in the lives of others and especially those who need it the most.”

On Tuesday, January 6, the  WE G.I.V.E. volunteer group assembled at the Oakland Marriott City Center and excitedly  joined together to build ham sandwiches and decorate brown paper lunchbags as  music blared over the speakers. Volunteers then carried the lunchbags to trucks  that will deliver to the East Oakland Community Project, Operation Dignity,  Dream Catcher Youth Shelter and Support Center, A Safe Place, Bay Area Rescue Mission and the local Salvation Army.

“#HashtagLunchbag is a viral and global movement to come together and give back to our community, and we are honored to work with the Golden State Warriors and Esurance today,” said Bay Area #HashtagLunchbag organizer Rebecca Cahua.
