Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Steve Kerr and the rest of the Warriors coaching staff went home winners on Sunday night, as the Western Conference All-Stars defeated the East 161-158 in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game. Russell Westbrook scored 41 points for the West and was named All-Star game MVP, but both Warriors players made their presence felt on the game as well.

Starting alongside James Harden, LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol for the West, Curry and Thompson made the Warriors the only franchise in the league with two starters in this year’s game. In a contest in which historically very little defense is actually played, the free-flowing setup allowed the Dubs’ backcourt to showcase the skills that have defined their growing reputations. Curry accrued six points, three assists and four reboundss in the first 8:32 of the game, while Thompson supplemented his 0-for-4 shooting by dishing out four assists in the first 7:01. Aided by some impressive dribbling and assists, particularly from Curry, the West carried a 47-36 lead into the second quarter.

Determined to not let the game get out of reach early on, the East used the second quarter to climb back in it, but not before Curry assisted on one of the best highlights of the game:

After that Curry to Nowitzki alley-oop (and hilarious ensuing celebration), the East would go on a 19-8 run over the final 3:13 of the quarter to trim the deficit to a single point and trail the West 83-82 heading into halftime. At the break, Curry had 10 points, seven rebound and four assists in 14:10, while Thompson tallied two points, three rebounds and four assists in 12:39. Russell Westbrook, on his way to securing his first All-Star Game MVP, notched 27 points in the first half, setting the new NBA record for most points scored in a single half of the All-Star Game.

Both of the Splash Brothers would start the second half and play the first 7:04 of the third quarter. Thompson continued to contribute in several areas of the stat sheet, accruing five points, one rebound and two assists over that span in what turned out to be his final playing time of the game. Curry also scored five points over the same segment, including quite possibly the play of the game right before they were subbed out:

The two sides would head into the fourth and final quarter with the score tied at 122, setting up for a competitive finish. Curry re-entered the game with 5:22 remaining and the West up 146-143. He’d gather two more rebounds and add another assist to his overall tally, as the West edged out the East in the final minutes to secure a 161-158 victory. In total, Curry notched 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists in 26:36, while his backcourt mate Thompson added seven points, four rebounds and six assists in 19:43. To his credit, Steve Kerr accomplished his goal of giving every one of his players an opportunity, as every member of the West team played at least 10 minutes in the contest.

The All-Star Game win became the icing on the cake of the Warriors’ All-Star Weekend experience, as the team will return to the Bay Area with multiple victories on its belt, including Stephen Curry’s winning performance in Saturday night’s Foot Locker Three-Point contest. In a season in which the Warriors have been sticking out for all the right reasons, they made sure the trend continued amongst the league’s biggest and brightest stars at NBA All-Star Weekend.

Ladies and gentleman, we have a new Three-Point Contest Champion, and his name is Stephen Curry. Both Splash Brothers made it to the second and deciding round of Saturday night’s shootout, but Curry absolutely owned the finals, thrilling the New York City crowd with an event-record score of 27.

Curry’s dominant second round was made possible by a stretch of 13-straight makes spanning the third through fifth racks. That was the second longest streak of made shots in event history, behind only Craig Hodges' legendary performance in 1991 (19 straight makes). That followed a separate streak of seven straight makes over the first and second racks. His 27 point-output was 10 more than the second-place finisher Kyrie Irving, who led off the final round with a score of 17.

Klay Thompson led all competitors with a score of 24 in the first round to earn a trip to the finals, but he was faced with following Curry’s gargantuan 27 in the finals, and finished with 14 to take home third place in his first ever appearance in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.

Curry’s shootout victory is his first in four career tries, and he had to outlast perhaps the best field in the event’s history. Eight competitors took part in the shootout, including two former champions (Kyrie Irving and Marco Belinelli), this year’s leader in 3-point percentage (Kyle Korver) and a fellow Splash Brother.

In the first round, Curry was the fifth participant up, and his 23 matched Irving for the high up to that point. Curry saved his money rack for last, and he certainly took advantage by hitting four of those five shots. In total, Curry went 15-for-25 in the opening round, and he connected on eight of his nine two-point attempts.

It’s never a bad idea to flip on NBA TV, and that’s especially true during All-Star Weekend. The action will begin Friday morning with Media Day, where you can get some behind-the-scenes access and catch interviews with all of your favorite All-Stars including Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

BBVA Rising Stars Challenge
For just the second time in the last six years, the Warriors will not have a player participating in the Rising Stars Challenge. However, the annual game featuring some of the league’s top young talent will still have a bit of Dubs flavor. Warriors Associate Head Coach Alvin Gentry will “coach” the U.S. squad in this modified event, which for the first time will feature the top American first and second year players going up against the league’s top first and second year international players. At least one team has scored 140-plus points in this game in each of the last five years, so we probably shouldn’t expect too much defense to be played in this one.

State Farm All-Star Saturday Night | 5:30 p.m. | TNT

Degree Shooting Stars – First Event
Stephen Curry will team up with his father, Dell, for the second straight year in this event. The father-son duo will be joined by eight-time WNBA All-Star Sue Bird of the Seattle Storm to form one of four teams in this timed shooting contest. The Shooting Stars features four numbered shooting locations of increasing distance, with each team attempting to make all shots in numeric order in the fastest time. The two teams with the fastest time in the first round will advance to the championship round.

Foot Locker Three-Point Contest – Third Event
Although it’s not the last event of All-Star Saturday Night, to many the Three-Point Contest is the main attraction. And for Warriors fans, this is what we’ve all been waiting for. The Splash Brothers are in the contest, and it’s about time. For Curry, this will be his fourth appearance in the shootout, and he’ll be going for his first win. Thompson, meanwhile, will be making his maiden voyage in the event.

The Splash Brothers will have plenty of competition, with three of the top 10 3-point shooters (by percentage) in the shootout – Atlanta’s Kyle Korver (1st: 52.3%), Thompson (6th: 44.0%) and the Clippers JJ Redick (9th: 43.6%). In addition, seven of the top 10 players in total 3-pointers made this season are in the contest (see below), along with the event’s defending champion Marco Belinelli.

In the two-round competition, five shooting locations are positioned around the 3-point arc. Four of the racks contain four orange balls (each worth one point) and one multi-colored "money" ball (worth two points). The fifth rack will be a special "all money ball" rack, which each participant can place at any of the five shooting locations. Every ball on this rack will be worth two points. The players have one minute to shoot as many as the 25 balls as they can. The three competitors with the highest scores in the first round advance to the championship round.

Nobody younger than 50 years old remembers the last time the Warriors had two starters in the NBA All-Star Game. That will change on Sunday when the Splash Brothers take the floor, marking the first time ever that two Warriors guards participate in the annual showcase. Curry and Thompson will see some familiar faces on the sidelines, as Head Coach Steve Kerr and his staff will coach the West’s team by virtue of having the best record in the conference.

In addition, Warriors forward James Michael McAdoo and Hornets guard Elliot Williams, both of whom have spent much of the season with the Santa Cruz Warriors, have been selected to the NBA D-League All-Star Game, which will take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. on NBA TV.

The grand finale of All-Star Weekend will be Curry’s second straight All-Star honor, both starts, and this year he was the leading vote getter in the entire NBA. Thompson, a first time All-Star, will join his backcourt mate in the starting lineup, giving the Dubs a pair of All-Stars for the first time since 1993 (Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullin). This season has been full of achievement so far for the Warriors, and Sunday’s All-Star Game will certainly mark a milestone moment for the entire organization.

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson has been named a starter on the NBA Western Conference All-Star team, the league announced today. Thompson and two-time All-Star and teammate Stephen Curry will be the first Warriors duo to start the All-Star Game since 1967, when Rick Barry and Nate Thurmond both earned the starting assignment at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

Thompson, who will make his first career All-Star appearance, is averaging career highs of 22.1 points (10th in the NBA), 3.0 assists and 1.22 steals to go with 3.4 rebounds and 32.5 minutes in 49 games (all starts), hitting career marks of 47.1 percent from the field and 44.0 percent from three-point range (sixth). The only three-time winner of the Western Conference Player of the Week Award this season, Thompson will also make his first appearance in the Three-Point Contest as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night.

Curry—who will also participate in the Three-Point Contest and Shooting Stars competition—and Thompson will make the All-Star start for Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr and his staff, who were selected to lead the Western Conference by virtue of the Warriors owning the best record in the conference. The Warriors are off to their best start in franchise history with an NBA-best record of 41-9 through the first 50 games of the 2014-15 campaign.

Thompson and Curry are the first pair of Warriors to be selected to the Western Conference All-Star team in the same season since 1993, when Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullin were both chosen, and the first time the team has sent two guards to the annual showcase.

NBA All-Star 2015 in New York City will bring together some of the most talented and passionate players in the league’s history for a global celebration of the game. The 64th NBA All-Star Game will reach fans in 215 countries and territories in 47 languages. Golden State Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will participate in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night on February 14 in New York, the league announced today. In addition, Curry has been selected to participate in the Degree Shooting Stars.

Curry (23.6 points per game, eighth in the NBA) and Thompson (22.4, 10th) are the highest scoring backcourt duo in the NBA, ranking third (147) and fourth (145), respectively, in three-point field goals made this season. Curry ranks fourth on the NBA’s all-time three-point percentage list (.434), while Thompson ranks 14th all-time (.417) and fourth in the league this season (.446).

Curry, who will start in the NBA All-Star Game for the second consecutive season, is averaging 23.6 points, 8.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.13 steals (second in the NBA) in 33.2 minutes over 47 games (all starts) this season, hitting 48.9 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from three-point range. In last night’s win over Dallas, Curry scored a season-high 51 points—the second-highest scoring output of his career—while hitting a season-high 10 three-pointers to join Thompson as two of only four players in the NBA this season to score 50 points in a game. Curry tallied career highs for points in a quarter (26 in the third) and points in a half (36 in the second) en route to his 51-point night, combining with Thompson to become the first pair of teammates to both register 50-point games in the same season since 1994-95. The two-time All-Star will make his fourth career appearance in the Three-Point Contest (2010, 2013, 2014) and second in the Degree Shooting Stars (2014), where he is paired with his father, 16-year NBA veteran Dell Curry, and eight-time WNBA All-Star Sue Bird of the Seattle Storm.

Thompson, who will make his first career All-Star appearance as a Western Conference reserve, is averaging career highs of 22.4 points, 3.0 assists and 1.24 steals to go with 3.5 rebounds and 32.4 minutes in 46 games (all starts), hitting career marks of 48.1 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from three-point range. On Jan. 23 vs. Sacramento, the 6’7” guard poured in a career-high 52 points, setting an NBA mark for most points in a single quarter with 37 points in the third frame on a perfect 13-of-13 from the field and 9-of-9 from three-point range. The only three-time winner of the Western Conference Player of the Week Award this season, Thompson will be making his first appearance in the Three-Point Contest.

Thompson’s selection marks the first time in franchise history that the Warriors have had two guards in the All-Star Game. Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr and his staff will coach the Western Conference All-Star team by virtue of the Warriors clinching the best record in the West through games played Feb. 1.

Thompson, 24, is averaging career highs of 23.0 points (seventh in the NBA), 3.0 assists, 1.29 steals and 0.93 blocks to go with 3.6 rebounds and 32.6 minutes in 42 games, hitting career marks of 48.1 percent from the field and 45.6 percent from three-point range (third) for the NBA-leading Warriors (36-7). Thompson has won the Western Conference Player of the Week Award three times this season, becoming the first player in franchise history to win three weekly honors in a single season.

The Washington State product ranks third in the league in three-point field goals (136) and has hit multiple threes in a franchise-record 22 consecutive games, tied for the third-longest such streak in NBA history. Thompson has tallied a career-best six 30-point games, three 40-point games and one 50-point game, a career-high 52 points that came in record-breaking fashion on Jan. 23 vs. Sacramento.

In his 52-point performance, Thompson set an NBA mark for most points in a single quarter, tallying 37 points in the third frame on a perfect 13-of-13 from the field and 9-of-9 from three-point range. The fourth-year guard eclipsed the previous league-record for points in a quarter of 33, held by George Gervin (April 9, 1978) and Carmelo Anthony (Dec. 10, 2008), while topping Wilt Chamberlain’s franchise-mark of 31 points set in the fourth quarter of his NBA-record 100-point game on March 2, 1962. Thompson’s nine threes in the frame set a new NBA record while his 13 field goals matched David Thompson’s mark set on April 9, 1978, and his 11 three-pointers in the game matched the franchise-record that Curry set in his career-high 54-point game on Feb. 27, 2013.
